Frequently Asked Questions

Doki Doki Modding Central (DDMC) is a comprehensive platform dedicated to creating, sharing, and exploring modifications for Doki Doki Literature Club! by Team Salvato. It serves as a hub for modders and fans to collaborate, share resources, and enhance their experience.

DDMC was created in October 2023 to provide an inclusive, drama-free environment for the DDLC modding community. Our goal is to foster creativity, archive and preserve mods, and provide resources for modders without the politics and restrictions that have affected other communities. Our motto is "Archive Everything" - we believe in preserving the community's creative work regardless of internet drama or stigma.

Our platform offers:

  • An extensive catalog of mods (standard, Android, demos, archived)
  • Educational resources and tutorials in our Classroom section
  • Asset repository with music, art, code snippets, and GUI elements
  • Community spaces via Discord and Reddit
  • Submission forms for your own mods and resources
  • Documentation for Ren'Py and modding templates

While the specific tools depend on the type of mod you're creating, most DDLC mods are developed using the Ren'Py engine. We provide comprehensive documentation and tutorials in the classroom to help you get started, if you need help, or if you want to learn anything new. Common tools include:

  • Ren'Py SDK (Software Development Kit)
  • A text editor (VSCode, Atom, Sublime Text, etc.)
  • Image editing software (for backgrounds and sprites)
  • Audio editing software (optional, for custom music/sounds)
  • Our DDLC Modding Template

Yes, you can submit your mods regardless of engine or how you made it. Be advised that during your submission, you will have to outline how exactly to install and run it, as it would deviate from the standard instructions. Also remember that your mod does have to be complicit with Team Salvato's IP Guidelines, so you can't submit a pre-installed/pre-built mod. We don't make the rules, we just enforce them.

Yes, although we try to be as hands-off as we can; we're not an anarchy, but we also don't rule with an iron fist either. See the "About" page for what we do enforce. The most important rules to follow are:

  • Follow the Team Salvato IP Guidelines
  • Don't include illegal content or malware
  • Respect copyright laws for third-party assets
  • Provide proper installation instructions

We offer extensive resources in our Assets and Resources sections, including:

  • Music libraries with free-to-use tracks
  • Background and sprite art
  • Code snippets and template addons
  • GUI elements and design resources
  • Links to recommended external tools and libraries

These resources can help you create a professional mod without having to create everything from scratch.

We have several submission forms that you can access from our Submissions page:

  • Mod Submission - For completed mods or demos
  • Asset Submission - For backgrounds, music, sprites, etc.
  • Template Addon Submission - For Ren'Py additions that extend the base template

Each form will guide you through the submission process with specific fields for that content type.

Please have patience. We have at most two people right now that manage the site--one is a busy IT specialist, and the other is a busy university student. Point is, we do have lives, and we will upload mods and assets whenever we have the chance to. As such, we also prefer to upload in massive batches instead of on an individual basis, so be assured that you're not the only one thinking this. TL;DR we'll get to your stuff eventually.

Yes, you can submit updates to your mod or assets using the same submission forms. Just clearly indicate:

  • This is an update to an existing submission
  • The name of the original mod/asset
  • A summary of what has changed
  • The new version number (if applicable)

Our team will process the update and replace the old version with your new one.

We accept a wide variety of DDLC-related content:

  • Mods - Full mods, demos, patches
  • Assets - Music, artwork, sprites, backgrounds, sound effects
  • Code - Template addons, useful scripts, technical improvements
  • Videos - Mod playthroughs, tutorials, showcases

As long as your content follows our basic guidelines and isn't illegal, we'll most likely archive it.

Getting involved in the community can be as simple as contributing your thoughts and ideas--it makes a big difference and supports everyone here. If you'd like to take a more active role, you can connect with staff and other members through our subreddit or Discord server. For those interested in joining the team, we announce open positions whenever we're hiring. If you're passionate and interested, let us know! We value merit and commitment above all else.

Absolutely! Not only do we have a dedicated feedback form and channel in the Discord server, where you can either be anonymous or known. You can also reach out to one of the staff members directly if you so choose. Also note that feedback is not just exclusive to technical issues; your complaints can also be about anything that may impact the community negatively if left unchecked--harrassment by other users, abuse of power by a staff member, grooming, you name it. We value all input regardless of significance.

Keep in mind: we actually don't ban people from the Discord server, only with particularly egregious exceptions; see the server to find out what we do instead. As for uploading mods as a banned user, you absolutely can, as per rule 1 on the "About" page. We like to separate art from artist here.

DDMC was founded on these key principles that set us apart:

  • Archive Everything - We believe in preserving the community's creative work
  • Minimal Censorship - We support creative freedom within legal boundaries
  • Community-First - Decisions are made with the community's interests in mind
  • Drama-Free - We focus on creativity and collaboration, not politics
  • Transparency - Open communication and accountability from staff

These principles guide everything we do and have created a more relaxed, creative-focused community.
